Catmint (Nepeta)

Catmint Plant Features

If you want to enjoy a steady supply of blue flowers in your garden you can't go wrong with catmint. This amazing plant pops into bloom in the early spring and stays blooming on and off throughout most of the summer (it helps to shear back each wave of flowers after they fade). Both the flowers and foliage of catmint are fragrant especially when the plant is rubbed or brushed. Plant catmint along the edge of a path where you can enjoy the minty perfume every time you walk by. The nectar-rich blooms are enjoyed by hummingbirds and butterflies, too! Catmint is resistant to rabbit and deer damage. Hardy from zones 4-9.

Catmint Growing Instructions

Catmint is a super easy perennial. Plant it in full sun and well drained soil and stand back. The plant will virtually take care of itself. For best growth, water whenever the soil feels dries and sprinkle some slow release granular fertilizer around the plant in the early spring. Clip away faded flowers to promote additional flushes of bloom. Catmint can become a bit invasive so plant it where you can control its spread.

Catmint is not recommended for human or animal consumption.
