Evolvulus (Evolvulus pilosus)

Evolvulus Plant Features

Paint your garden beds or containers with the lovely blue blooms of evolvulus. Planted in a sunny spot, this lovely spreader smothers itself with a nonstop wave of ocean-blue flowers atop a mound of pretty blue-green foliage. Bees and butterflies love the nectar-rich blooms and will spend hours in your garden feasting. Although evolvulus is perennial in the southern part of the country, most regions consider it an annual and replace it every year.

Being a member of the morning glory family, evolvulus flowers will often close in the afternoon. Be sure to grow this groundcover in a spot where you can enjoy its beautiful blooms in the morning before they close. Because it's drought tolerant, this plant is also perfect for creating a carpet of color in hot, dry spots of your yard. Hardy from zones 8-11.

Evolvulus Growing Instructions

Evolvulus will grow in partial shade, but looks its best in a sunny spot that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sun a day. It likes well-drained soil and hates having its feet wet for too long. If you are growing evolvulus as a perennial, cut it back in the early spring to encourage new growth.

Evolvulus is delicious to bees and butterflies, but it's not intended for human or animal consumption.
