Fuchsia (Fuchsia)

Fuchsia Plant Features

With jewel-like, pendulous blooms, fuchsia is the perfect choice for hanging baskets and window boxes. Grown as an annual in the North, fuchsia leads a double life in the South as a landscape plant. Fuchsia enjoys partial sun and must be kept moist at all times. The plant comes in a wide range of colors and bi-colors in either single or double flowering forms. The nectar-rich flowers are very popular with hummingbirds and butterflies. Fuchsia can be grown as an upright shrub and is considered a tender perennial that must be covered if cold weather threatens. It will grow 12 to 36 inches tall. In the North, you can bring fuchsia inside and treat it as a houseplant over the winter or just toss it and start fresh each spring. Hardy from zones 9-11.

Fuchsia Growing Instructions

Fuchsia can be a bit fussy when it comes to exposure. It wants a lot of sun, but doesn't like to get too hot so place it where it can get plenty of light but be protected from direct afternoon sun. Keep fuchsia just slightly moist at all times and offer a little liquid fertilizer every week or so to keep the plant well fed. If you grow fuchsia in your garden, well-drained soil that's rich in organic matter is best. If you have poor soil, amend it with compost before planting fuchsias.

Fuchsia is not intended for human or animal consumption.
