Gaura (Gaura spp.)

Gaura Plant Features

Butterflies will flock to your garden when you include gaura in your flower borders or containers. This sun-loving North American native plant is used as a perennial in warmer parts of the country and as an annual in colder regions. Gaura is heat and drought tolerant and can handle high humidity with ease. Gaura blooms all summer long producing graceful wands of nectar-rich white, pink, or bi-colored flowers that butterflies love. The deer-resistant plants grow 2 to 3 feet tall. Gaura makes an excellent container plant, too. Hardy from zones 5-9.

Note: Botanists have reclassified Guara, so you may also see it listed as Oenothera lindheimeri.

Gaura Growing Instructions

Plant gaura in a sunny spot that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sun a day. Gaura is not fussy about soil type, but does best where it won't have to stand in wet ground. Clip away the faded flower stalks as they appear to encourage new waves of bloom.
