Cool Beauty Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia 'Cool Beauty')
Cool Beauty Dieffenbachia Plant Features
Dieffenbachia Cool Beauty is an exciting new hybrid that came to us from Japan. It immediately caught our attention because it shows off green leaves with creamy centers and neat white edges. It's the first dwarf Dieffenbachia variety we've seen with this variegation pattern.Cool Beauty Dieffenbachia starts out small, making it perfect for well-lit desks and tabletops. As it matures, it can grow several feet tall, becoming an eye-catching floor plant. Its variegated leaves are a perfect foil against dark green foliage like Monstera, Spathiphyllum, and Anthurium.
This easy-to-grow houseplant is a hybrid of the popular variety Camille and was patented by its breeder in 2019. As such, we're obliged to tell you propagation is prohibited. Learn more about plant patents.
Cool Beauty Dieffenbachia Growing Instructions
Light NeedsLike other Dieffenbachia varieties, Cool Beauty does best in a spot with medium to bright light (best characterized by being within 3 to 4 feet of an unobstructed east- or west-facing window). It tolerates lower light conditions, but won't grow as fast or stay as full and bushy. The variegation may not be as pronounced, especially on older leaves.
If you don't have a spot with good natural light, Dieffenbachia Cool Beauty also thrives under artificial lights.
Water Needs
Water this variegated houseplant as the top several inches of the potting mix dry to the touch. How much/often that is will depend on other environmental conditions, including light (in general, the more light there is, the more water it will drink), temperature, humidity, and other factors. It's always best to probe the potting mix with your finger or a moisture meter to get a sense of whether it's moist before watering again.
If you're not sure whether it needs water, you're usually best off waiting a day or two. This Dieffenbachia would rather be too dry than too wet.
Humidity Needs
Average to above-average relative humidity levels (40% or higher) are best. It tolerates lower humidity conditions well thanks to its relatively thick leaves. But if the air is too dry, leaf tips and edges may go brown.
Fertilizer Needs
There's no one rule for fertilizing. It can get by with being fertilized as little as once or twice a year (spring and summer are best). Or you can fertilize frequently, following the directions on the fertilizer packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend. Do be sure to use a fertilizer that's formulated for use on indoor plants.
Pruning
Cool Beauty Dieffenbachia is a dwarf variety and rarely needs pruning, except to remove any old or damaged leaves.
