Light Level: Direct Sunlight

This plant loves direct sunlight. Place it by a window or on a porch that gets direct, natural light for at least a portion of the day.

Water Level: Thirsty

This plant can only go 1-2 weeks without water so check on it weekly and add water every time the top two inches of soil dry out.

Quick Tips

The more light it gets indoors, the happier it will be. It tolerates low light but looks best (and has the most pronounced variegation) in a bright spot.

Plant Bio

Ficus elastica Ruby

Did you know there are several amazing varieties of variegated Rubber Tree available? One classic option is Ruby, which has been around for decades but has recently skyrocketed in popularity. The reason? Its large (they can get more than 12 inches long), thick leaves with beautiful pink and red variegation. In frost-free areas, this tree can grow up to a towering 40 feet tall. But don't worry if you're an indoor plant parent. With lower-light conditions and containers that restrict root development, you can easily control its growth and keep it the perfect size for its room.

Ruby Rubber Tree grows best in medium to bright light (within 3 to 4 feet of a large, unobstructed east- or west-facing window is often ideal). It can be supplemented – or grow entirely – under artificial lights, as well. Water as the top half or so of the potting mix dries to the touch. Give it average household temperatures and average to above-average relative humidity levels.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
